Teacher assessment

Teacher assessment is an essential part of the national curriculum and is carried out as part of the teaching and learning process.

It spans the programmes of study, and takes into account evidence of attainment in many contexts, including discussion and observation.

The national curriculum tests provide a snapshot of attainment in English and mathematics at the end of key stage 2.

For more information on teacher assessment see the 2011 Assessment and reporting arrangements.
