This funny and insightful take on life in the classroom, written by Sarah Butler, is one of the winners of the 2008 Staffroom Monologues competition. Introduced by competition judge Ashley Pharoah, there is also an interview with Sarah, and a glimpse behind the scenes.
Staffroom Monologues is a series of five short plays based on winning scripts from the 2008 competition run by Teachers TV, in association with the National Union of Teachers. Now in its second year, the series offers an alternate view of life in an educational environment, written by those who work within it.

I enjoyed this monologue and feel that there should be a sequel. I loved the understatement and the quasi madness that emerges from the character. I see myself in her. Spooky.
This video is very funny and heart warming. It portrays what i believe the life of an early years teacher to be, and has made me very excited to enter the world of teaching, and the highs and lows that come with it!
Excellent - made me cry!
Have just about convinced my fiance that Karaoke is a good thing for our forthcoming wedding - am looking forward to the look on his face when I show him this video...! I laughed out loud - thank you!

Oh dear, that really is what we Early Years teachers are like! I found the programme hilarious to watch and so true. It's a releif to know little visitors are the bane of everyone's class. You are so right about some points on the profile being hard to tick off. The thing is, I'm already married so now I'll have to persuade some poor friend to let me hijack her wedding so I can tick off all those points too. I hope S Burton will write more witty comments in the future. FTeach

Darn't show it to my husband, he will tell you I've been like that for 23 years. Brilliant piece Sarah. Yes lets keep ticking those PM boxes!!
This so rings true and I loved the idea of guests evaluating the table decorations
I laughed out loud at some of the throw-away educational jargon - especially the aims and objectives on a screen behind the vicar!
The is excellent, so true in many ways! Work /life balance with the emphasis on work!
so funny! Tamisn was excellent in this.
