A sniffer dog that helped free people trapped following the earthquake in Haiti in 2010 and a spaniel who risked his life to help people during the 7 July 2005 bombings in London have both been nominated for an award by the Kennel Club.

The Friends for Life competition celebrates dogs who have shown outstanding bravery or devotion to their owners.

This primary classroom resource is designed for Year 5 and 6 PSHE, maths and ICT lessons. It can be used as part of the accompanying lesson plan, created for Teachers TV, which includes activities and extension tasks based on this topic. In this lesson pupils will learn about how the police use dogs.
