Pupils should gain an understanding of how rocks are weathered by expansion and contraction and by freezing of water. They will also learn more about the classification of sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous processes.

The programme further covers how igneous rock is formed from liquid rock called magma, and how fossils are the remains of living creatures found in sedimentary rocks.
